LAST week Mick Wadsworth described Colin Nish as Pools’ Emile Heskey – and the striker yesterday proved his boss wrong with two goals as his side eased past Bury.
Nish’s unselfish play this season has helped Adam Boyd score four goals and rediscover his form.
But unlike the bundling and misfiring former England striker, Nish has goals to his game, as showed yesterday with two to his name.
Signed from Hibernian in the summer, Nish’s unselfish performances have helped Pools make it eight without loss this season as they moved into fifth spot in the League One rankings.
Bury, managed by former Victoria Park crowd favourite Richard Barker, were never in the game, as Pools kept them at arm’s length in a strong display.
Former Newcastle star Nobby Solano was an inspiration for Pools and he opened the scoring on 36 minutes, with Nish adding two more in the second period to make it four successive victories for Wadsworth’s side.
“The manner pleased me, it was professional and solid, but we didn’t play as well as we have done at times,” said the manager.
“We never looked in trouble throughout, but goals change games.
“We got three and could have had double that really.
“We hit the bar, had a couple whizz past the post.
“But I’m pleased and in the second half we picked it up and took the game to them.
“We had to be patient throughout. Some people think it’s going to be easy against a team who have lost so many on the bounce, but it isn’t – it’s not like that.”
