South Shields 3 Billingham Syn 2

SOUTH Shields remain fourth, equal on points with Ashington, after surviving a late rally by Billingham Synthonia at Filtrona Park.

The Mariners scored twice in the first three minutes, firstly when David Graham curled a free-kick into the net, then when Johnny Wightman attacked down the left and Lee Paul Scroggins was at the far post to leave goalkeeper Porter helpless again.

The Synners, though, deservedly reduced the deficit after 62 minutes.

Tommy Marron capitalised on a defensive mistake and struck a powerful shot wide of goalkeeper Nicky Lawson.

Seven minutes later and it was all to play for as Danny Earl scored following a well-taken free kick by Darren Hollingsworth.

South Shields then hit back to claim victory with a 74th-minute penalty by Scroggins.

West Allotment 3 Chester-Le-Street 1

CHESTER-le-Street remain in the bottom six after losing to West Allotment Celtic, who recorded only their fourth win in 16 games.

The Cestrians had the incentive of a 23rd-minute goal by Craig Price who scored with an overhead kick that flashed into the net.

Before the interval, Celtic levelled with a good left-foot drive from Ian Dunn which gave goalkeeper Josh Carmichael no chance of saving. Early in the second period, Craig Scott met a corner and gave Celtic the lead with a low volley.

Carmichael then saved Dan Hindmarsh’s penalty but Celtic wrapped it up when an effort from Stephen Forster was parried by Carmichael, only for David Thompson to follow up and score.
