AFTER winning the final race of the TLI pursuit series, Malcolm Lewis (Deli Baps) made it a double win by taking the final race of the criterium series at Newburn.
Lewis’ commanding victory saw him take 35 points from a possible 40 available.
Matt Garnett (Gosforth RC) took the first sprint after five laps of racing, breaking away from the bunch to cross the line alone with Lewis taking second place.
With four laps to go John Walton (VC Azzurri) put in a powerful attack, quickly establishing a 20-second lead. But Walton was not allowed to stay clear as Colin Humphrey worked hard with his Gosforth RC team-mates to pull Walton back. With the bunch again together, Lewis comfortably won the final sprint.
RESULTS: 1 Malcolm Lewis (Deli Baps), 2 John Cann (Barnesbury CC), 3 Colin Humphrey (Gosforth RC), 4 Matt Garnett (Gosforth RC), 5 Neil Souter (NFM/TRM), 6 Rob Graham (Gosforth RC), 7 Dominic Munelly (Gosforth RC), 8 Paul Hague (Gosforth RC).
