THE recent slightly warmer temperatures have been a bonus to us coarse anglers.
There have been encouraging reports of good catches from the River Tyne where small chub and dace are being caught at Tyne Green.
And even the tidal is picking up, 14-year-old Lee Smith certainly had a good day on the TAA stretch taking a decent double-figure net of dace and roach on a falling tide.
Whittle Dene continues to provide some good sport, the Lower reservoir produced the goods for Alan Robson who took a fair net of roach, gudgeon and dace for a thirteen pound net.
Ide are dominating nets at Aldin Grange, Wayne Harrison fished the silver lake and took a fish a chuck fishing with maggot and caster just under the surface.
Dave Barret and Rob Rundle has similar success on the main lake but had some real quality ide on maggot, while carp and tench are being taken on worm and corn.
Bowes Lake at the Angel is still giving some very good carp catches.
Keith Brown fished pellet and and took 40 carp in wet and windy conditions.
Malcolm Rutter found sweetcorn worked well when he took a catch of 18 carp to double figures. Good bream and skimmers coming from Lookout Lake where the fish are shoaled up and feeding well.
Wansbeck & Cramlington AC have announced the dates for their winter series, these are: January 17, February 14 and March 14 and 28.
Low oxygen levels have slightly affected sport at Esthwaite Water, but some decent rainfall, which is expected this weekend, should trigger some good sport.
Lure anglers have been finding success, Peter Jenkins used a jerkbait from the boat and took a nice 22lb 4oz fish along with five others to 16lbs, Ady Mason also took three fish to 13lbs on lures.
Pike anglers wishing to qualify for next year’s British Pike Championships should note that two qualifiers will be held on Longtown West Pond on November 22 and February 28. Full details from Chris on 01228 674519.
Today will see the sell out Steve Roberts Memorial match take place on the River Tyne, Chester-le-Street fish a winter league match on the Wear, while Sunderland FAC also fish a winter league event on Silksworth Pond.
On Tuesday evening, Wansbeck & Cramlington hold their monthly meeting at the Dudley & Weetslade CIU Club.
While on the same night the Darlington & Co Durham branch of the Pike Anglers Club meet at Coxhoe Club.
