Coarse Angling: Rewards are there for hardy anglers

The trip from Carlisle was worth the effort for Wes Fawcett when he fished Bowes Lake and took 22 carp, with four fish in to double figures.

Brian Moore and his daughter Emma fished Bassetts lake for the first time and had a great time, catching carp, ide, rudd, golden tench and roach.

Local stillwaters are still giving anglers some sport. Ide are feeding well at Dissington Pond, and Marden Quarry at Whitley Bay is giving reasonable sport with silver fish and perch.

Wansbeck & Cramlington’s winter league match, scheduled to be fished on Horton Grange today, has been cancelled due to the road being extremely muddy.

The club have enhanced the fish populations of both Horton and Milkhope with a stocking of roach.

Also today, Leazes Park contest their annual Fur & Feather match on the city water, Sunderland FAC fish a winter league match on Silksworth, and Chester-le-Street fish a match on the Wear.

On Tuesday evening, the South East Northumberland branch of the Pike Anglers Club meet at the Holystone Pub.

Wednesday night is the monthly meeting of the Big Waters Angling Club, held as usual in the Companions Club on Leazes Park Road in Newcastle commencing at 8pm.
