IT is imperative that anglers get representation on the new Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authorities (IFCAS) as one of the remits is to look into the regulation of bait collection.
They will also be looking into any activity within six nautical miles of the shoreline, so this could effect boat anglers as well as shore.
The main change brought in by the Marine Bill will see the twelve Sea Fisheries Committees (SFC), which anglers had representation on, being replaced by ten (IFCAS).
The IFCA’s will be made up members of local authorities, which anglers have had a great deal to do with concerning bait collection, representatives of the local community, all stakeholders, including both commercial and hopefully recreational fishing.
The recruitment process, which should be up an running by autumn this year, is supposed to be transparent, objective, and fair to all candidates, and will be carried out in line with “Nolan Principles”, which underpin the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.
Closing date for applications is midnight on Monday, April 12, quoting IFCA0001s.
