Chatton Fishery (01688 215226): This week has seen good sport for some, but has been challenging for others. A few anglers who did get it right this last week included Trevor Wadds from Craster who caught eight fish using Diawl Bach, Robbie Bell from Berwick landed 10 trout using Buzzers, Ian Callow from Dunbar made his trip well worthwhile keeping five fish and returning four more using Diawl Bach’s and Brian Lowther from Stanley had a busy session landing 12 fish using Buzzers.
Langley Dam (01434 688846): This last week was the first full week of fishing at the fishery this year and I’m pleased to say the wait was well worth it with lots of anglers fishing and having some great action. Fish of the week was a cracker that weighed in at 10Ib 10ozs caught by Jim Tuck from Ashington with T Rob catching the best four-fish bag weighing 15Ibs. Most of the fish have been taken mid to deep with an intermediate or full sunk line being the best method of attack, flies that have worked well have included Cats Whisker, Damsels, Black Fritz and Montana’s.
Aldin Grange Lakes (0191 3846090): Fishing has been good on both lakes with a big stocking going in midweek. Top rod by far this last week was Richard Landsbury, who netted 40 plus fish during a very hectic days fishing with many other anglers netting up to 10 fish in a session. Top patterns over the week have included GRHE, PTN, Diawl Bach, Damsels, Buzzers and Bloodworm. Rod average for the week was a healthy 4.5.
South Linden Fishery (01670 788366): Both the fly and bait lakes are producing lots of bending rods. The fly lake in particular has seen lots of action with many anglers catching and returning up to 10 fish during a session. Angler of the week from the fly lake was Gary Palmley from Ashington, who caught and returned 12 fish, his best was estimated at over 10Ibs. The bait lake is also doing well with lots of anglers netting trout to over 5Ib in size. Top flies: Black Fritz, Montana, Cats Whisker, Buzzers and Bloodworm. South Linden will soon be starting a parent and child fishing club for kids aged eight years and above, the club will start to meet from Saturday, April 10, 9am-12pm. The club leader will be level two qualified fishing instructor Kevin Dawson who will teach everything from health & safety to general fishing tactics. The first session is FREE but places are limited so if you would like to get involved pleas give the fishery a ring.
Caistron Fishery (01434 609725): It’s been another top-class week with anglers having lots of arm wrenching battles with this fishery’s tip top condition trout. There has also been a bit more surface activity with the milder weather and anglers are targeting trout that they can see on the surface feeding. Large Buzzers have been coming off and anglers imitating these have caught well. Anglers catching well this last week included Sandy Robertson fishing on a sporting ticket catching and returning eight fish including two crackers weighing 12Ib and 7Ib. E Watson from Morpeth netted six trout his best weighed 6Ibs and N Greaves caught four fish his best weighed 3Ib 4ozs. A good number of superb quality over-wintered trout have been caught this last week as well as a good few cracking brown trout. This fishery is really starting to come back to life after the cold spell so expect the action to just keep getting better.
Knitsley Mill Trout Lakes (01207 581642): Footfall has been down a little this week but for those anglers who fished the action has been superb. Top tactics have been either a floating line fished with Diawl Bach, Buzzers, Bloodworm, Damsels and PTN, or fish a little deeper on an intermediate line with patterns such as Dawson’s Olive, Cats Whiskers, Black Fritz and Blobs in all the popular colours. A very big stocking is going in for this weekend with trout from the 2Ib size to over 10Ibs so expect some explosive action once these beauties start to be hooked. Rod average for the week was 3.
