SPORT throughout the area remains upbeat with the much warmer conditions encouraging most species to feed, which in turn is attracting more anglers to the banksides.
The roach at Whittle Dene are in a positive feeding mood with some very good catches reported this last week. Roach are also the main attraction at the Derwent Reservoir where some good quality catches have been taken by the feeder at range.
Aldin Grange is giving some excellent sport with the new recent stocking really feeding well!
Big Waters Angling Club fished the fifth match of their Winter Series last Sunday and ide dominated most of the nets. Paul O’Donnell took the honours with 42lb 1oz, Martin Craig was second with 40lb 13ozs and Steve Guy finished the frame with 23lb 7ozs.
Dissington Pond is maintaining its current good form with ide, tench, roach. rudd and carp all feeding well. Marden Quarry at Whitley Bay is giving some good sport with silver fish!
The start of the Spring League at the Angel of the North complex began last Sunday. Chris Owers took the win with 26lb 5ozs, Chris Gowling followed with 24lb 12oz and Johnny Maddison took third with 23lb 7oz.
Today there is a match at the Angel, also Wansbeck & Cramlington fish a Winter League event on Horton Grange. The Durham County Angling Action Group meet at the Durham County Council Offices on Monday.
On Tuesday evening it’s the monthly meeting of the South East Northumberland branch of the Pike Anglers Club, held as usual in The Northumbrian Piper Pub in Fawdon commencing at 7.30pm. Big Waters Angling Club have their monthly gathering at the Newcastle Companions Club this Wednesday at 7.30pm.
