Sea Angling: Dominant Jim Dobie takes honours

JIM DOBIE showed the skill that brought him many England caps during the Rutherford’s Cono-Flex open, fished at the Tyne Business Park and Copthorne Hotel promenade.

Dobie was the only angler to feature in the top three on both days the event was held.

With flounders, eels, and whiting, plus a single bass being taken, Dobie taking a steady stream of fish won zone two on day one with 634cm, and was third in zone one on day two with 211cm, giving Dobie a total of four points.

With four anglers on seven points the results went to count-back, Robbie Cowan taking second place with 654cm, Paul McIntyre third with 636cm, Nick Westgarth fourth with 589cm, and Chris Stringer fifth with 582cm. The longest fish a bass of 42cm by Paul McIntyre.

There was an amazing £2,400 paid out in cash and prizes. Unfortunately, the normally productive Warkworth beach did not produce for the Angling Trusts flounder match, with only three managing to catch.

Henry Henderson was very happy taking the first prize of £100 for a flounder of 10oz, with Joe Dent also receiving £100 for his flounder of 8oz 4drams. Junior angler Liam Smith, who won the junior section with a flounder of 1lb 2oz, was not entered into the main event.
