Frustrated Bates admitted there can be no further repeat, saying: “We created quite a lot and we did fairly well in a lot of areas, so to end up on the wrong end of the result again is a big disappointment.
“We did have problems at the scrum, but we were unsure about some of the interpretations, and we’ll review that.
“But we felt we were good value for potentially a losing bonus point and maybe if we had been a bit more accurate, the win.
“Their try at the death was purely a symptom of us trying too hard to push the pace and force the issue, and we have to learn from that and make sure we don’t repeat that again.
“We have to shrug off the disappointment, get back to hard work and make sure we can iron out these mistakes once and for all.
“There have been enough little errors that have been costly from us recently, and now we have end that without delay.
“We’ve got another big game against Bath this coming weekend and it’s another chance to get it right – and one we don’t intend to waste.
“The players are frustrated because they know they didn’t perform to the level they want and they know where they slipped up – but we did a lot of positives things too, and we just have to build on that.”
