DANNY WILLIAMS and his Falcons team-mates are itching for action this afternoon, as Newcastle make the Aviva Premiership trip to London Wasps.
The Falcons were left kicking their heels over the holidays as their Boxing Day date with Leeds was postponed twice due to a frozen Kingston Park pitch, with Williams saying: “All the boys are looking forward to this one.
“We were disappointed not to have a game over Christmas with Leeds being cancelled twice in two days – it’s been building up for a couple of weeks now since the win over Exeter a fortnight ago and we’re just desperate to get out there.”
Williams takes up a place on the bench for the Adams Park clash after coming back from a hamstring injury – scoring a try on his comeback game three weeks ago and impressing in a late cameo against Exeter in Galashiels.
“I’ve got no illusions about where I am in the pecking order at the moment, and I’m not where I want to be,” said the England rugby league international, currently in his third season as a Falcon after switching codes from Leeds Rhinos.
“A lot of that is down to injury and the fact that I haven’t been out there on the field, but equally the other lads have took their chances and are there on merit.
“Luke Fielden has been tremendous for the team since coming here in the summer, Charlie Amesbury was doing well before his injury and Gcobani Bobo got the try against Exeter in our last match.
“There are other guys putting their hand up as well though, and there’s no shortage of competition for places in the side right now. All I can do is try and work my way back in, and hopefully I’ll get a bit of game time against Wasps to show what I can do.”
