RICHARD MAYHEW has revealed it will be a family affair for Newcastle Falcons this season, as he prepares to square up against his younger brother.
While North Harbour flanker Richard will be lining up in the Falcons’ back-row, younger sibling Nic will be packing down at prop for Harlequins following the pair’s summer move from New Zealand.
“We get on pretty well, but there has always been a bit of competition in the family,” said Richard, whose other brother Mike has recently returned to their home province after a spell at London Wasps.
“There is only a year or so between each of us, and the general rule seems to be that the younger you are, the shorter and wider you get!
“That means I am the tallest, but also the skinniest, and we have prop right through to loose-forward between the three of us.
“We all played together for North Harbour, which was a proud moment for the family, and it will be good to have another Mayhew with me in the Aviva Premiership.
