Blackheath 22 Tynedale 20

A MUCH-changed Tynedale side started off brightly and couldn’t get over the try line and then Blackheath hit back and in the space of 20 minutes scored three tries.

The first by second row Alastair Banner, the second by Samuel Windsor, both converted by Adam Armstrong who went on to kick a penalty shortly after. This was followed by another try for Blackheath, which was well finished by James Stephenson.

The only Tynedale score was a penalty by William Massey.

In the second half Tynedale looked more determined and started to control the game and scored their first try, by Massey, on 60 minutes and another try followed shortly afterwards after good work by the forwards and finished off by Samuel Shires.

Shortly afterwards, after a period of excellent ball retention by Tynedale going through 20 phases, Harry Mountain scored a try in the corner converted by Massey.

As much as Tynedale tried they could not get the winning points in the last five minutes and ended up unlucky losers.

l FUMING Leicester coach Richard Cockerill admitted there was a stunned silence in the home dressing room after London Irish fought back to secure a 24-24 draw.

Leicester led 13-7 at half-time, but Irish full-back Tom Homer booted a penalty and converted tries from replacement wing Adam Thompstone and Matt Garvey to complete a remarkable comeback.

“It is hugely disappointing,” he said. “We put ourselves in a position to win it.”
