Roy's not finished spending

ROY KEANE’S summer spending spree is not yet over but already the Sunderland boss is warning that his chequebook will be out again in January.

The Black Cats boss has brought in eight players over the summer, with strikers Djibril Cisse and David Healy the latest to arrive on Wearside this week.

And Keane is still aiming to complete a deal for West Ham centre-back Anton Ferdinand as well as bring a left-back to the club before the August transfer window slams shut a week tomorrow.

But Keane has signalled that he will be looking for more new recruits when the window reopens in the New Year.

“I don’t think you can ever be 100 percent content with your squad. You always want to improve it,” he told the Sunday Sun.

“You’re always looking for more quality and you’re always looking to strengthen in any transfer window. If I get the players in that I want this month then I will be happy, but by the time January comes the chances are that I will be looking for more.

“A lot depends on what happens with injuries between now and then.”

The Drumaville consortium in charge at Sunderland have given Keane strong financial backing to bring in players during his two years in the managerial hot seat on Wearside.

In that time, he has brought an incredible 32 players to the club on permanent deals, along with another three on loans. But eventually Keane wants to get to a stage where he only needs to add a couple of players in each transfer window to keep refreshing his squad.

He said: “Ideally, over the next few years, I will need less new players with every transfer window that comes round.

“I know I’ve bought some experienced players, but I also want to buy one or two young players who will fill positions for years to come.

“Ultimately, I want to come down to just needing to bring in one or two players in a transfer window.”
