Hutchinson backs Cats move for McGeady

FIRST Alan Thompson, now another of Sunderland’s former North East rivals has added his seal of approval to any proposed move by the Black Cats for Celtic star Aiden McGeady.

The Stadium of Light club have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international, but warned it will take more than £10 million to prise him from Parkhead.

But after ex-Newcastle and Celtic midfielder Thompson said his former team-mate “has more than enough to survive in the Premier League” and “would be a great attribute if he comes to the North East”, his assessment has been echoed by Bhoys starlet Ben Hutchinson, previously with Middlesbrough.

“I know a lot of people sneer at Scottish football but having come from the English Premier League I can assure you it’s no step down,” said the 20-year-old.

“Our squad is full of talented players, all of them gifted on the ball. But one player stands out — Aiden. He is fantastic and it’s no surprise he’s won so much so early in his career.”
