ROY KEANE expects to sign two new defenders this week – with Anton Ferdinand likely to be first through the door.
Keane is aiming to bring in two more players before the transfer window closes a week tomorrow.
The Sunderland boss says he is “very hopeful” of landing one of his targets – believed to be Ferdinand, although he did not mention the West Ham centre-back by name.
Keane said: “I’ve got two players in mind and I’m hoping to complete on them next week.”
Sunderland had an £8m bid accepted for Ferdinand last week and a source close to the deal says the 23-year-old has agreed “in principle” to move to Wearside.
Keane’s other target is a left-back, with Manchester City’s Michael Ball understood to be high on his list.
But, even if Keane gets the men he wants this week, it will not mark the end of his spending - he admits he is set to go back into the transfer market in the New Year.
