Darren Bent hits out over Redknapp

DARREN BENT blames Spurs boss Harry Redknapp for the jibe that turned his already unhappy spell at White Hart Lane into a nightmare.

Sunderland’s new £10m man came under fire from Redknapp in January after the striker missed an open goal which would have given Spurs victory against Redknapp’s old side Pompey.

Redknapp publicly claimed ‘my missus would have scored that’ and Bent says that was the lowest point of his two years at Spurs – a time he has already labelled the worst of his career.

Bent aimed a parting blast at Redknapp, saying: “I just never felt I was part of the regime there. Harry had his own ideas and I didn’t fit into that.

“The fact that I didn’t fit in was never spelled out to me. The only time I heard that was from reading a newspaper.

“And the remark about his wife was probably the worst thing that happened to me. I missed chances at my old club Charlton and I will miss chances in the future. But never once has a manager come out and said what he said.

“If he was to have a go at me in the changing room then I could take it. But the next morning when people were ringing me up and saying ‘have you heard what Harry said’ then it is not nice.
