My mate Steve deserves Cats success – Pally

“Rather than just looking to consolidate and sell the odd player, he can look to go forward and build a team that can stay together.”

After almost a decade working under the most successful British football manager of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, at Man U, Pallister says it is no surprise that Bruce shares some of the same qualities as the master - but admits no one can be a carbon copy of Fergie.

Pallister said: “I’m sure Steve has taken a lot from the way Sir Alex manages Man U.

“Discipline, respect for the players, the management and the club that you’re playing for.

“But you can’t try and be a mirror image of an Alex Ferguson or a Brian Clough or whoever.

“You’ve got to stand on your own two feet and Steve has done that.

“He was one of the players at Man U that I looked and thought could go on to be a manager because he was interested in coaching and the tactical side of things.

“A few of the others who have gone into it, were more of a surprise.”
