Bruce: I would be happy to sign new deal

STEVE BRUCE wants to extend his stay at Sunderland to six years.

Bruce took over on Wearside in the summer and is only five months into a three-year deal, but he says he would be happy to sign up for ANOTHER three years.

Bruce, who left yesterday’s opponents Wigan to join the Black Cats, said: “I don’t think you can take anything for granted, but I signed a three-year deal when I came here and I hope I can sign another one.

“That, is the way I feel at the moment. It is going very well and we have the makings of a decent team.”

Bruce has made an excellent start to his reign, masterminding wins against Arsenal and Liverpool and a deserved draw at Manchester United as Sunderland look to establish themselves as a top-half Premier League side.

The former Man U centre-back has even been tipped by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp to one day manage England.

Bruce added: “If you do receive the chance to manage your country, it has got to be the ultimate.

“I never got there as a player, but if the opportunity one day came along to manage my country it would be the pinnacle.”
