“The art of managing is to get more right than you get wrong.
“When I look at things now, is there one big decision I regret? I would have to say no.”
Bruce has overseen a huge turnover of players in his 14 months in charge, with 20 players leaving Wearside and a dozen arriving ath the Stadium of Light – with almost as many players again moving in or out on loan.
He admits there has been too much change in too short a space of time for his liking, but says managers these days do not have the luxury of making gradual changes.
He added: “We have made that many changes - probably too many - but I have been in management long enough now to think ‘hang on a minute, you don’t get that much more time.’
“You have to make decisions quickly. We all want time, but you don’t get it like you did years ago. You have to make an impact.
“Something like 20 players have left, which is a massive number. Who else has done that in 12 months?
“It has been a huge turnaround and I am hoping we eventually get the squad we are looking for.”
