Steve Bruce: It's been frustrating, difficult and disappointing

Steve Bruce

STEVE BRUCE was left to bemoan more missed chances as Sunderland’s wait for their first victory of the season continues.

As in their last two games against Brighton in the Carling Cup and, before that, the Wear-Tyne derby, Sunderland could not take the opportunities they created and had to settle for a goalless draw at newly-promoted Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium.

Debutant John O’Shea hit the bar and Craig Gardner missed a free header, but Asamoah Gyan was the most culpable as he wasted four excellent openings.

Bruce said: “It’s been a frustrating, difficult and disappointing week, but we have created enough chances in all three games to win a football match, that’s for certain.

”It’s not often you come away to a Premier League club – newly-promoted or not – and have five or six opportunities like we have had today.

”But what separates this level from the others is your ability to take them.

”Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to take them, just as we couldn’t on Tuesday at Brighton or in the derby last weekend.

”We hit the bar within two minutes against Swansea, and Asa had a really good chance.

”I keep saying it, but we have to score a goal.
