Leeds U18s 1 Sunderland U18s 0

SUNDERLAND slipped up yesterday at Leeds Thorp Arch Academy going down by a single goal.

Although the visitors had several chances, they were unable to convert these into goals. Sunderland started brightly and could have taken the lead as early as the third minute with a ball from Armstrong putting Matthew Fletcher through, only to see his shot go inches wide.

The young Black Cats continued to pressure the hosts, but were unable to find the breakthrough.

Sunderland pushed on, but were deflated on 55 minutes, when Leeds won a corner. The cross was dropped by keeper Wilson and, as Liam Bagnall attempted to clear, his mis-kick ended up in his own net.

Coach Kevin Ball said: “We had plenty of chances to win this game, Leeds played a totally different game to us, preferring the long ball.

“However, I was very disappointed with the lads, they thought they just had to turn up.”
