Colliery band strikes a chord

Backworth Colliery Band first started in 1886 and is the last remaining colliery band in North Tyneside. The band has two former miner performers and eight relatives of past miners, and is still keeping the old spirit of mining communities alive. Click here to see them rehearsing.
