A Royal Marine from Newcastle who single-handedly turned the tide of a battle after running from cover to help an isolated comrade has been awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.Corporal Bradley Malone's troops were surrounded by Taliban fighters after an ambush but the 23-year-old advanced across open ground in order to help Sergeant Keith Tompkins, who had become isolated.
