Mickey Rooney to star in North panto
Veteran Hollywood star Mickey Rooney is to appear in panto.
The 86-year-old will play Baron Hardup in Cinderella in Sunderland.
During a stellar movie career, Rooney appeared opposite the likes of Judy Garland and Lana Turner.
He will share the stage at the Sunderland Empire with Les Dennis and former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, from Gateshead, her husband, Andy Scott-Lee, and ex-Emmerdale actor Dale Meeks.
Rooney's wife, Jan, will play the Fairy Godmother.
It will be Rooney's panto debut.
The legendary star received an honorary Oscar in 1983 for a career spanning 50 years. He was also given a special juvenile Oscar in 1939.
He recently appeared in the Ben Stiller comedy Night At The Museum.
