Opera in the open

TWO Italian opera singers are performing free open-air mini concerts in the region next week.

Counter-tenor Antonio Giovannini and baritone Gianluca Margheri have been flown in from Verona to support The Castle Players’ sell-out production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona in the grounds of Teesdale’s famous Bowes Museum.

Wearing Renaissance costumes, they will also give free performances in Gateshead’s Baltic Square on Tuesday at 12.30pm and Durham Market Place on Wednesday at 12.30pm.

The singers’ UK debut has been sponsored by Arts Council England, Durham Tees Valley Airport and Discover Teesdale.
