Show's over for Jill

Jill Halfpenny

Jill Halfpenny is handing over her dancing shoes - and lead role in West End musical Chicago - to Hollywood actress Brooke Shields.

The 29-year-old Gateshead actress took on the role of Roxie Hart after triumphing in the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing show.

But from April 26, Shields, who is about to turn 40, will fill the role for a nine-week run at the Adelphi Theatre.

Chicago is Shields' British stage debut. As well as Halfpenny she is following in the footsteps of actresses including Denise Van Outen and Jennifer Ellison.

Halfpenny, meanwhile, is looking forward to a homecoming later this year, when she plays the fairy godmother in pantomime at Newcastle Theatre Royal.
