Simple christening for Rod's son

Rod Stewart

Veteran rocker Rod Stewart and his fiancee Penny Lancaster had their baby son christened in a Scottish church yesterday.

The couple chose to have seven-month-old Alastair Wallace christened in a simple service in the South Leith Parish Church in Edinburgh.

The couple arrived there shortly before the service got under way at 11am.

Stewart, 61, was dressed in a kilt while his fiancee was wearing a long white dress and white lace gloves and carrying a white parasol.

Bells rang out as they entered the oldest church in Leith - the area where Stewart's father Bob was born.

After the service, which lasted just over an hour, Stewart and Lancaster left the church to a hearty round of applause from parishioners and other well-wishers who had gathered outside.
