North-born footballer Michael Carrick was part of a three-way kiss- off yesterday as a trio of Premier League players got hitched.

Manchester United midfield star Carrick, of Wallsend, North Tyneside, wed fiancée Lisa Roughead at a £250,000 ceremony in Leicestershire, attended by his family and a number of his former Spurs colleagues.

Meanwhile, football legend Bryan Robson, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, was among a host of stars who turned out yesterday for the lavish wedding of his former Manchester United team mate Gary Neville.

The ex-Boro boss smiled at well-wishers before heading into the ceremony where Neville wed his fiancée Emma Hadfield.

The England star's best pal David Beckham couldn't repay him the favour of being his best man as he had to stay in Spain to prepare for Real Madrid's championship decider today (Sun). Instead Neville's brother Phil did the honours and the pair arrived yesterday morning in a silver Bentley beneath heavy grey skies as flowers were still being taken into the church.

Dad Neville Neville beamed with pride as he watched his 32-year-old son exchange vows in 800-year-old Manchester Cathedral with former shop girl Emma, 25.

Among the guests were Wayne Rooney and his fiancée Coleen McLoughlin, who hired a helicopter to get there after earlier attending the wedding of Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard and Alex Curran at Cliveden House Hotel in Berkshire.

Neville and Hadfield's marriage was the bookies' favourite to attract the highest-calibre celebrities and it didn't disappoint.

Despite no appearances from the Beckhams, Manchester United favourites Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, as well as Magpies midfielder Nicky Butt, were there.

Giggs, 33, had already been celebrating after being awarded an OBE for services to sport in the Queen's Birthday Honours. On Friday, England captain John Terry married Toni Poole at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, in an event believed to have cost almost £1m.
